Senior System Performance Engineer

Maximizes system performance by proactively and reactively identifying and resolving system performance-affecting issues. Proactively improves/maintains system performance by coordinating or completing channel plans for their assigned systems and by suggesting hand-off/cell balancing parameters for new cell sites. Works with field personnel on existing system problems such as interference, poor cell site performance, antenna system redesign, traffic/VCH capacity, and hand-offs/cell balancing. Analyzes and/or collects data from drive test instruments and from OM’s and logs collected from switch.

Responsibilities

• Capacity: Works with RF engineering to review future capacity requirements. Recommends traffic management strategies. Implements datafill for capacity changes and additions. Validates post implementation performance.

• Inter-System Hand-off coordination: Reviews all coordination whether in-house or from neighboring markets and communicates pros and/or cons with appropriate RF Engineers and Network Operations. Works with neighboring markets to implement, test and maintain intersystem handoffs.

• Modification Design: Using available tools, works with RF Engineering to suggest hardware and software changes to improve system performance. Works with vendors and other departments to create test plans, if required, for evaluation and implementation of new software releases as they pertain to system performance.

• System Performance Assessment: Using RF engineering tools, works with RF Engineers on interference studies and for all proposed frequency/PN plans. Works with Network Operations and Customer Service in resolving customer complaints and service issues. Analyzes new and existing cell site performance with RF Engineers and Network Operations. Makes recommendations to improve dropped call, dropped handoffs, access failures, blocking and reduce interference.

• Communications: Initiates and maintains communications between all departments to promote open dialog to provide improvements to the customer’s experience.

• Projects: Leads and/or participates in inter-departmental related projects defining or refining processes and procedures and standards. Works directly with other regions and corporate RF Planning group to ensure company standards are up to date.

• Training: Monitors team training needs and wants as new technologies needs develop. Works with Regional Performance Manager to plan and implement training as needed. Develops training and informational seminars on new technologies as well as reviews existing technologies/methods for a strong understanding of the tools and methods available.

Works with field personnel to improve system quality including assistance and training with cell site optimization and path balancing procedures.

• System Development: Assists Marketing, Sales, and RF Engineering with customer specific engineering applications such as building penetration needs, specialized cell site installations and designs, and answering customer’s technical inquiries. Works with RF engineers with new technologies that will enhance the customer experience.

• Departmental Development: Works with Regional Performance Manager and System Performance Analyst to develop OM analysis tools, and update as technologies change. Develops new methods of detecting poor call quality as well as ways to improve call quality.

• Drive Testing: Performs drive tests for PRL testing, Data throughput, frequency clearing, system optimization, cell site candidate selection, and cell site integration as well as market bench marking. Works with product evaluation group to test and evaluate mobile devices.

·         Travel: Required as needed.
