Database Architect 
Responsibilities

 

 

This position is a technical leadership role involved in the architecture, design and development, as well as the tuning of new and established Oracle databases and related applications. The database architect participates in the definition of the overall delivery strategy of large data initiatives such us data migration and consolidation, data warehousing, data quality, and master data management.  The database Architect may operate as a hands-on data and database subject matter expert when necessary.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Role-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Implement efficient databases, including specifying physical characteristics, design efficient partitioning and indexes, and mapping database objects to physical storage devices.

  • Lead the design, integration and maintenance of complex Oracle databases.

  • Create logical and physical data models, translate logical and physical data models into physical database designs.

  • Provide consultation on strategic direction for Oracle database design, development and maintenance. Establishes strategies and requirements for Oracle database backup, recovery systems, database migration and archiving systems and procedures.

  • Analyze data access and modification requirements to ensure efficient SQL and optimal database design

  • Define architecture and thresholds for Oracle database monitoring. Directs activities to monitor Oracle performance trends.

  • Recommends proper hardware and software implementations to improve software quality, efficiency and minimize cost.

  • Create and maintain documentation related to the company data warehouse and operational business systems.

  • Advocate best practices concerning Database Architecture and operations.

  • Respond effectively to change and engage in multiple projects simultaneously

Business Partnership

  •  Establish strong working relationships with other architects

  •  Establish strong working relationships with the business, operations and other technology team members

  •  Participate in and support cross technology process improvement initiatives

  •  Participate in firm-wide Architecture / Engineering working groups, and ensure that the technology organization is aligned to corporate technology directions

People Management

  • Manage individual workload and deliver to agreed upon project milestones

  • Proactively promote consistent career management, performance measurement and skill development of junior staff

  • Actively participate in HR performance measurement processes

  • Assist in defining staffing plans and recruiting to achieve goal

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Strong analytical skills and deep understanding of data and information architecture and design

  • Familiarity with a substantial part of the technology organization’s information portfolio

  • Understanding of relevant information system technologies and development life cycles �� such as open messaging platforms and various database platforms

  • Strong knowledge of business management, and ability to understand business functions, processes, and interfaces

  • Experience with query performance tuning and schemes in  a large database environment that handles large number of concurrent users and a mixed workload.

  • Experience with data privacy, data security and protection regulation such as CPNI, PCI, etc.

  • Experience with data quality, metadata, and master data management and implementation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong influencing / negotiation skills

Work Experience Required

  • 10+ years of Oracle Database Administration experience including at least 5 years in a senior or lead role

  • 10+ years of experience and track record of success in data management and architecture, specifically, large scale data migration, and Data Warehousing development.
