Operations Analyst II 
Responsibilities

 

 

This role plays a key part in enabling critical business system processing. Creates and maintains jobs and schedules for all batch processing. Identifies automation opportunities within the Operations team and assists with design and development of solutions. Assists with disaster recovery planning and testing. Provides subject matter expertise for support teams with respect to batch scheduling. Defines and maintains scheduling best practices. Evaluates daily processing and makes recommendations for improvement.

 

 

Responsibilities

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Create new jobs and schedules in batch scheduling tools

  • Modify existing jobs and schedules as required

Job and schedule troubleshooting/ research

  1. Answer support team questions regarding jobs and schedules.

  2. Research job issues

  3. Proactively identify scheduling inefficiencies and work to resolve.

  4. Research job runtimes and dependencies

Administrative Tasks

  1. Clean abends and holds from Production and Test environments.

  2. Review daily job failures.

  3. Periodically audit the population of jobs and work with support team to remove unused jobs.

  4. Maintain Job Knowledgebase

  5. Develop and maintain scheduling standards

  6. Prepare Batch-related SOX test data for assigned SOX controls

  7. Represent the team in Infrastructure Performance Review meetings.

  8. Assist in planning scheduled maintenance

Application Upgrade Planning

  1. Attend Application Upgrade meetings

  2. Review and update Upgrade plans (Operations tasks)

  3. Manage Upgrade communications to Operators

  • Installs, configures, maintains, tunes and upgrades the hardware, operating system, and system   applications of infrastructure environment.

  • Evaluates system performance and reports to management.

  • Assists in system disaster recovery assistance.

  • Defines development tools and procedures for daily operational support.

  • Supports application activities that require specialized system programming.

  • Identify changes needed in the infrastructure configuration to achieve the technology organization goals

  • Manage the implementation of technology and infrastructure changes, effectively communicating customer needs to the team

  • Manage effective issue identification and resolution process; serve as the focal point for infrastructure-related issue / crisis resolution

  • Identify opportunities to save costs and more effectively manage assets and escalate the opportunities

  • Ensure communication of process and procedure changes to key stakeholders

  • Support identification and collection of metrics and performance reporting processes

  • Monitors delivery against SLAs and reports exceptions to management

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, when applicable

Business Partnership

  • Maintain contact with the business users to proactively identify needed changes

  • Establish working relationships with technical, business and sourcing counterparts

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives

People Management

  • Manage individual workload and deliver to agreed upon milestones

  • Proactively promote consistent project-based performance measurement and skill development of junior staff

  • Actively participate in HR performance measurement processes

  • Demonstrate ability to work in team environment and help resolve issues

  • Provide input to staffing plans at the project-level to identify key / required skills

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • College degree in related technical / business areas or equivalent work experience

  • 2 to 5 years relevant work experience

  • Working knowledge of Unix

  • Working understanding of client/server architecture

  • Basic knowledge of distributed computing Unix tools (ssh, scp, ping, etc)

  • Basic understanding of networking

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel- Ability to import and export data, sort/filter and create charts, create formulas, etc.

  • Prior experience with Tivoli Workload Scheduler or another batch scheduling tool

  • Basic understanding of databases and tables

  • Understanding of the technology organization and / or business and technology

  • Re-engineering / process improvement experience, leading and coaching quality improvement projects

  • Strong change management skills; change agent

  • Excellent problem solving / analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to create / define metrics that accurately reflects the current state of a given process

  • Knowledge of ITIL, Six Sigma, CMM and/or other relevant methodologies

  • On call responsibilities including evenings/weekends as necessary.

  • Batch Scheduling Applications: Tivoli Workload Scheduler, AmDocs Operational Scheduler

  • Business Applications: Remedy Trouble Ticketing

  • Office Automation: Word, Excel, Outlook

  • Planning & Design: Microsoft Project, Visio

  • Software Engineering: SQL Plus, Perl, K Shell, C Shell
