System Administrator - Wintel 
Responsibilities

 

Purpose and Scope: This position will support the infrastructure and customers associated with U.S Cellular. This position provides server support for the daily operations and management of U.S Cellular including, but not limited to: design, analyze, evaluate, test, debug and implement hosted application programs.   Analyze, install and modify support operation systems, data base and utilities software. Plan and implement projects for LAN systems.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Systems support within both large and small scale data centers across the enterprise.

  • Create and maintain appropriate operations and support documentation.

  • Manage Microsoft Exchange 2003 in a clustered environment.  This includes, but is not limited to, Exchange 2003 administration, troubleshooting mail delivery issues and Active Directory dependencies.  Familiarity with MX servers, Aliasing, and Sendmail is also required.

  • Troubleshoot, install, configure and optimize Enterprise server operating systems. (NT, 2000 Server, 2000 Advanced Server, 2003 Web, 2003 application and 2003 Enterprise)

  • Ensure data is properly backed up using enterprise Backup technology and specific comparative knowledge of industry standard enterprise Backup software and hardware. (Symantec NetBackup)

  • Analyze information and respond with corrective action recommendations for system monitoring technologies. (NetIQ, System Center Operations Manager, Tivoli)

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and prepare appropriate reports.

  • Develop and maintain programs, scripts, and procedures for the automation of system administration tasks.

  • Plan, lead, and implement large and small scale projects across the enterprise.

  • Monitor and resolve daily trouble tickets and requests.

  • Build, test, and maintain SAN storage, EVA, Storage works, modular tape libraries.

  • Troubleshoot proprietary software problems and make a determination of when to engage Development groups for resolution.

  • Manage remote systems, to include: Remote ipKVM, Remote management of Eye-and-Hands services, DameWare, Terminal Services (both Admin and Application modes), Remote management of Vendor interactions for Hardware and Software support services.

  • Correctly rack mount HP servers with cable management, rack placement planning, rack power calculations, balancing and utilization.

  • Solid understanding and skills designing, configuring and operating Microsoft Active Directory in a large, complex organization.

  • Ability to leverage Group Policy to define advanced configurations for groups of users and computers.

  • Experience implementing/managing VMware ESX Server and Virtual Center shared environments.

  • Expertise with HP stand alone server platforms, and blade enclosures: DL 360 / DL 380 / BL 460

  • Hands on experience with up to date knowledge of enterprise server security and patch management, based on industry standards and best practices.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, MIS or equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years of hands-on technical and design experience with Microsoft Enterprise technologies.

  • MCSA certification preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of SMTP, mail routing, DNS, Blackberry and Outlook client/server interoperability.

  • Working knowledge of load balancing techniques and best practices.

  • Ability to trouble-shoot any problem quickly, under time constraints, and with interruptions. This should include:   Understanding SLA management and reporting, restricting knowledge transfer to pertinent information only, notification process and protocols and managing multiple issues simultaneously.

  • Strong project management experience in data center implementations and migrations.

  • Strong knowledge of configuration and change management.
